WMHS poets share works

On Wednesday, March 13, 15 Wiscasset Middle High School poems were shared at the first ever WMHS Poetry Recital. Students shared their own creations as the audience took an emotional roller coaster ride with laughter wonder and sorrow. Some students chose to have others, including teachers Kim Andersson and Michelle Fraser, read their poems.

Emily Richardson, grade 10 student, was the emcee for this special event. A great time was had by students and teachers alike. ELA teacher Jake McCarthy stated, "I thought it was great to see our students excited about language, especially because I think some of them were able to express feelings and thoughts that they wouldn’t necessarily share otherwise." Eighth grader Ellery Downing stated, "I was really nervous, but it turned out pretty good."

The recital was complimented with tasty almond cookies, chocolate dipped strawberries, and a sparkling cider. The event was well attended as students were supported by friends, family, and WMHS staff. This was the first recital dedicated strictly to poetry. The goal was to plant the seed this year and expand the recital to make it an annual event.

Special thanks to all the students and staff who supported and participated in this special event and made this year's recital a night to remember!
