Women's club hosts spring tea at Lincoln Home
Members of the Twin Village Women's Club hosted a charming tea on Wednesday, March 22 at the Lincoln Home. Colored cloths of light greens, pinks and lavenders dressed the table and set the mood for this lovely occasion. The residents were treated to an amazing array of delicious choices. Currant scones, finger sandwiches, tiers of tiny cakes and frosted cookies were passed one after the other as "ohhs" and "ahhs" filled the room. Susan Day, whose mother was a charter member of the club, gave a short talk on the many ways the Twin Village Club serves the community. Gerry Hanley and Arlene Cowan, both charter club members were honored at the tea as well.
The Twin Village Club began in 1946 in Damariscotta and Newcastle. The club is a member of the Women's Clubs of Lincoln County and the union of clubs was the Founding Mother of the Lincoln Home. The seven clubs of Lincoln County raised the funds to buy the Bryant colonial homestead in 1924 to create a place for seniors to live in this community and these clubs supported and over saw the operation of the Lincoln Home in every way. The Lincoln Home opened its doors in 1927 and though it has grown over the years to keep pace with the ever changing needs in health care, it continues its mission of serving seniors. Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Loss Care and private in- home are now provided by Lincoln Home.
After every tea cup had been emptied and every treat savored, the spring tea was ended in a perfect way. Pastel jelly beans were given to all. A huge thank you goes to the women of the Twin Village Club for their many years of service to so many and for today's gift of fine food, fine conversation and most important, for being such true, long time friends to the Lincoln Home.
