Woolwich has set aside Thursday evening, Dec. 8, for residents to honor their longtime selectman and former town administrator Lloyd Coombs. Selectmen’s Chairman David King Sr. said the hearing room on the second floor of the municipal building has been reserved from 5 to 7 p.m.

“We’re hoping people will plan to drop by to wish Mr. Coombs well and all the best in his forthcoming retirement,” King said. Coombs, 82, announced his retirement in August. He’s finishing his fourth consecutive term, which ends on Dec. 31.

Before serving as a selectman, Coombs was the town administrator from 1995 to 2005, when the duties included being town clerk. He also served as a notary public and married a number of couples over the years, several at the Nequasset Meeting House.

Also Monday night, Nick Sampson of ReVision Energy reviewed plans for a proposed solar power purchase agreement. The solar array would be installed on the Nequasset Meeting House roof on the side facing the cemetery. ReVision would finance, build, own and operate the array for six to 20 years. After six years, the town can determine whether it wants to continue buying the solar electricity from Revision or purchase the system.

The array is projected to provide 14.85 kilowatts of electricity, covering about 60 percent of the town’s electric bill.

Selectmen haven’t decided whether to include the proposal on the annual town meeting warrant, or even if the meeting house roof is the best location for a solar array. ReVision will look into installation of a ground-based system if a suitable site can be found. The former landfill site was suggested.

Selectmen held off on authorizing the fire department to repair the North Station on Chopps Cross Road. The work is estimated at $6,000. King noted the repairs hadn’t been included within this year’s budget. The board may wait until the annual town meeting.

EMS Director Julia Gillespie said a Woolwich ambulance had responded to 18 of 19 calls for assistance, the last one being cancelled by the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office. One call was for a car/deer collision with multiple passengers in the vehicle.

Suzette Cloutier filled in as secretary for Monday’s selectmen meeting for Town Administrator Lynette Eastman who is on medical leave. Selectman Allison Hepler announced the fire department’s ladies auxiliary will hold its annual holiday craft sale Saturday, Nov. 26 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Santa will be on hand from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Before adjourning, the board approved a catering permit for Mae’s Café of Bath.
