Woolwich posts roads for heavy limits
The following town roads were posted in Woolwich for heavy weights beginning on Tuesday, Feb. 28.
Barley Neck, Grey Corner, Hockomock, East Hedge, and Delano roads; Hunnewell Lane; MacKenzie, Milt Carlton, Chopps Cross, Mountain, Phipps Point, Murphy’s Corner, Old Stage, Wolf Pond, Walker, Dana Mill, Trott, Meadow, and Montsweag roads; and Nequasset Road between routes 1 and 27.
“We may add or delete roads, as conditions warrant. These roads are expected to remain posted until mid-April,” Road Commissioner Jack Shaw said in announcing the annual posting.
Shaw said the weight limit is set by the state at 23,000 pounds. The limits don’t apply to emergency vehicles or fuel deliveries. People can have ready split firewood delivered, but not a bulk delivery of uncut cord wood, he added.
“We posted the roads this morning. We generally like to do this around the same time as Wiscasset posts its roads,” Shaw continued.
Shaw said additional heavy load postings, dictated by the Maine Department of Transportation, were possible for routes 127 and 128.
