Woolwich wants you to volunteer
Woolwich residents have an opportunity to get involved in their community by volunteering for a board or advisory committee.
Lynette Eastman, town administrator, compiled the following list of vacancies. If you are a resident of Woolwich and interested in volunteering your time you can contact the town office during business hours at: 442-7094 or email: administrator@woolwich.us
The following is a list of the committees or boards in need of members. Unless otherwise indicated all of the boards and committees meet at the town office at 13 Nequasset Road.
Solid Waste and Recycling Committee: The seven-member committee meets the third Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. Jonathan Appleyard is the current chairman. Three terms expire June 30.There’s also one additional vacancy that expires 2018.
Planning Board: Five members and two alternates make up the board which meets on the first Monday of the month at 7:15 p.m. Allen Greene is the chairman. One term expires June 30 and one of the alternate seats is available. It expires in i2018.
Board of Appeals: The board meets as needed. David Kloberdans is the chairman. Two of the six terms expire June 30 and there is one vacancy for a term that expires in 2018.
Recreation Committee: The committee is being reorganized into the Special Events Committee. It will oversee Woolwich Day and other community events. Its first meeting was set for 5 p.m., Wednesday, May 18.
Recreation Department: Voters approved the department’s formation at the May 7 annual town meeting. The town office is accepting applications to form a board overseeing the Recreation Department. Selectmen haven’t determined how many members it will have.
Road Committee: Two of the five appointments expire in June.
Other committees needing volunteers include: Cemetery; Conservation; Agricultural/Forest Resources; Monument; Nequasset Church; Nequasset Park Improvement; Public Communication; and Shellfish Conservation.
Those interested can fill out an application at the town office during business hours. The board of selectmen make the appointments.
“It’s a very simple process, you simply stop in the town office and fill out the paper work. Being part of a board or committee is a great way for people to get involved in the community,” Selectmen’s Chairman David King Sr. said.
