More on the future of the Senior Center
Last week I went over the problems being experienced by the Senior Center and the need for all to help turn things around. If you didn’t see that column I urge you to get a copy and also to read the March Senior Center Newsletter. There will be more about the plans for the future for the Senior Center in upcoming columns.
For this week here are a few interesting items. The first item is an announcement from the Wiscasset Senior Center Scholarship Fund. The 2013 Scholarship Applications are available at the high school Guidance Office. Submission deadline is Friday, April 5. This is the 10th year that the Wiscasset Senior Center Scholarship Fund has offered scholarships to graduates of Wiscasset High School residing in the Senior Center's area of interest. Awards will be made on May 15th at the Community Dinner at the Senior Center.
The Wiscasset Senior Center Scholarship Fund, Inc. is an independent non-profit corporation dedicated to providing scholarships to graduating Wiscasset High School Seniors interested in getting advanced training in any number of hands-on fields.
If you know of any graduating student that is interested in getting additional training in carpentry, computers, auto repair, cooking, or any other hands-on field, encourage them to look into the requirements for this scholarship. Several recipients have gone on to a variety of interesting employments.
A trip to Hollywood Casino in Bangor is planned for Monday April 8. Currently there are 14 signed up for this trip. We need 20 to have it a go. If you are interested in going on this trip please sign up ASAP. The cost is $25 and must be paid by March 27.
Last Wednesday’s public supper featured a baked cod fish entrée with a roasted garlic aioli topping which in turn was topped with panko breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese. The fish was moist and tender and the topping added a delicious taste.
For the past two weeks Della Hilton has brought cookies to the cribbage tournament on Thursday. She made these cookies herself and they were much appreciated by the cribbage players.
Two weeks ago the coolies resembled whoopie pies but were just cookies with frosting between them. Last week they were peanut butter cookies with a peanut butter frosting as a filling. Now cribbage is always fun but to eat some delicious cookies while playing cribbage makes losing a game quite acceptable.
The cribbage tournament winners on Tuesday, March 5 were Keith Bachelder first, Keith Bridgham second, Betty Sawyer low score and Nancy Schilke high hand. The cribbage tournament winners on Thursday, March 7 were Keith Bridgham first, Pam Frenier second, Robbie Greenleaf low score and Phoebe Cromwell high hand.
