Jeffrey Ramsdell has been bringing daughter Charlotte to Wiscasset's annual father-daughter dance for years. Now 7, Charlotte has gone from not really being able to dance to knowing moves like twirling. And he even learns from her, he said.

The redhaired New Harbor residents demonstrated her twirl with her hand in his in an interview in the Wiscasset Community Center lobby Friday night. The 18th annual dance was in the gym. The lobby had cupcakes, cookies, fruits, vegetables and other refreshments and a door prize drawing.

Staff member Bonnie Blagdon was smiling as girls from babies on up continued to arrive with their fathers or father figures, as WCC always announces are an option for the event. She went with purple for balloons and other decorations. She likes to change the colors each year, said Blagdon. It's her favorite annual event, Blagdon has said.

Blagden expressed thanks to Water Lily Flowers and Gifts on Water Street for donating centerpieces.

Parks and Recreation Director Lisa Thompson was on lemonade and water duty. "Everyone gets thirsty out there dancing." She noted the dance is Blagden's project. "I just said, 'What do you need me to do?"

Attendees interviewed were having a good time. "I really like it," Paul Davis's daughter Julia, 6, of Bath said, smiling.

"I love this. It's a great idea," Newcastle's Steve Figueroa said. He brought daughters Amelia, 4, and Alyvia, 2.

One hundred fifty girls attended, Thompson said.
