“Most art begins with a desire to communicate an idea or an image. Along the way there must be room for experimentation. This ‘allowing’ is where a painting can become energized. Pausing now and again, to listen you can sense your next move. The goal is to coax out a little chaos … a little playfulness and a little design composition. The intrigue is in the abstraction but the elements of realism make you think.,” said artist Lynne Seitzer.

The “White Paintings” are far from entirely white. They do, however, convey a lightness in feeling and are punctuated with thickly applied areas of color. Compelling shapes are intersected by finely incised lines and heavy texture. “The recognizable is woven into the abstraction,” Seitzer said, “and I find that a fun and intuitive way to create.”

The “White Paintings” series is composed of a dozen or more paintings which are related by the nuance of light and color. The size of these paintings range from small to large (10 x 8” up to 24 x 36” canvases).

Seitzer explores various avenues of painting and subject matter such as figurative, landscape, still life fruit, floral, birds and visionary imagery. She works in realistic, impressionistic and abstract styles often moving back and forth between them. The decision how to render an image can depends on the subject and what mode she is currently involved in. Although oil is her primary medium Seitzer occasionally chooses watercolor, pastel or ink for certain subject matter. For example, watercolor is her preferred method for painting portraits of children.

Lynne has exhibited and been represented across the U.S. as well as Africa and South America. Her work is in private collections throughout the U.S., and in Europe, Asia and Australia.

Recently she and husband John received awards for co-illustrating “Come Walk in the Fynbos With Me” along with author, Susan Schadler. The prestigious book awards were ‘The Eric Hoffer’ (Finalist) and the ‘Next Gen Indie’ Award (First Place.) They created 34 original oils, 17 each- depicting the indigenous plants and terrain of the African Fynbos.

The artist is half of the husband and wife team at Joy To The Wind Gallery - a little gallery surrounded by flowers and vegetable gardens. Boothbay Harbor is home and a primary source of inspiration for both Lynne and John. They operate a Custom Picture Framing Service and also have a working art studio above their Gallery.

This exhibit will open with a Wine and Chocolate Reception on Friday, Aug. 2 (Also First Friday!) beginning at 7 p.m. All art lovers, friends and public are welcome.

The art will be on display for the month of August.
