Shoreland dock approved in Edgecomb
Dawn and Raymond Murray asked the Edgecomb Planning Board Thursday, Aug. 1 to approve a dock for their 79 Fort Road property in the shoreland zone.
Tim Forrester, founder and owner of Atlantic Environmental, LLC, spoke on behalf of the Murrays. He said there was sufficient frontage and width at the property to accommodate a dock and still meet environmental protection regulations.
The Maine Department of Environmental Protection has issued a permit for the project and, according to Forrester and the Murrays, the Army Corps of Engineers has approved the project and the permit should be in hand shortly.
The design calls for an upper access ramp onto a 6-foot by 35-foot pier. It will include a 3-foot by 36-foot ramp and a 10-foot by 20-foot float. The float will be hauled off site during the winter.
The board approved the application on condition of approval from the Army Corps of Engineers. The Murrays were directed to contact Edgecomb’s code enforcement officer for a building permit.
Members also discussed a request to renew an expired building permit. Member David Nutt pointed out, Edgecomb building permits expire after one year. Chairman Barry Hathorne explained that a resident had asked for an extension and was now requesting another extension. No work has been started on the project during that time.
Board members agreed the one-year rule for building permits should remain in place with no exceptions.
