A new era for Bigelow Laboratory
Dr. Graham Shimmield, Executive Director and President of Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences, will be the guest speaker at Lincoln County Regional Planning Commission’s (LCPRC) Second Annual Meeting on Monday, April 29. The meeting will take place at the new Bigelow facility in East Boothbay from 5-7 p.m.
Over the past 40 years, Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences has been recognized the world over for its unique and remarkable scientific achievements. In 2008, Shimmield arrived from the United Kingdom, bringing his experience in collaboration with the Enterprise networks in Scotland, which have pioneered academic technology transfer to smaller businesses.
A new strategic plan for a modern, independent campus was developed in concert with the Board of Trustees and Senior Research Scientists. Today, the Laboratory occupies a 62,000 square feet state-of-the-art facility set in 64 acres of beautiful waterfront on the Damariscotta River.
Shimmield will talk about public-private partnership funding in our knowledge economy, illustrate the economic benefits to Lincoln County and beyond, and discuss the Laboratory’s approach to technology transfer and corporate alliances.
The LCPRC is Lincoln County’s economic development and land use/transportation planning organization. The meeting will highlight LCRPC activities and projects, and the Board will hold a brief business meeting. The meeting is open to the public at no charge. RSVP by Monday, April 22 to ereinholt@lcrpc.org or 207-822-5152 to help plan for lab tours and refreshments.
