Hurricane relief fund dinner at Congregational Church Oct. 7
The Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor will hold a hurricane relief fund dinner on Monday, Oct. 7 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The island of Abaco and surrounding Cays in the northern Bahamas, suffered catastrophic effects from Hurricane Dorian. Cataclysmic devastation of homes, lives, families, natural vegetation, schools, churches, livestock, pets and livelihoods were lost. Island infrastructure has been destroyed and communication with other people is extremely limited. While relief efforts are in place to help restore the island with potable water and power, the cost of doing so is immense.
This Oct. 7 buffet dinner, hosted by the Congregational Church, will help defray the cost. The buffet dinner will represent an Abaco Island menu. Prepared by chef Laura Francis: Bahamian style fish, chicken, rice and peas, macaroni and cheese and cole slaw will be served. Coconut tart, pineapple tart, guava cake, rum cake, macaroons, banana bread and key lime pies, combined with additional pies made by church volunteers and friends, will complete the meal. Please join us for a Bahamian evening replete with music and optional tropical clothing. Come along, have some fun and help Abaco rebuild.
Donations are gratefully accepted at the door. Please google Abaco for photos and more information on Dorion's tragic effects. FMI on the dinner, please contact Sue Goodrich at 207-223-4605 or Alice Mutch at 410-353-3861. All those interested in the recovery of Abaco are invited to attend.
