Live readings of love and adventure with Heartwood

Tue, 04/21/2020 - 1:30pm

Heartwood Theater's Latent Theater Project wraps up this week, with three final performances of love and high adventure, Wednesday through Saturday.

“Bloomsday,” by Steven Dietz, offers a delicate, charming script, mixing a past and present love with humor and wit.  One final performance remains on Wednesday, April 22.

In the final piece of this mini series, Heartwood pulls out the stops this weekend with a rollicking, grand storytelling adventure - “Shipwrecked!” by Pulitzer Prize winner, Donald Margulies.   The impeccable comedic storytelling of Bradley Carter, the fun and energy never slows, in this good old-fashioned piece of yarn-spinning - a “true story” based on an untrue story.  Two live readings are available online both, Friday and Saturday, April 24 and 25, at 7 p.m.

“It's just plain fun!” says director Griff Braley. “And we wanted to end our series with a lighthearted, uplifting piece for our audiences.”

In fact, audiences have come from all over the country, as well as various international locations, for this readers theater with a twist.  It's entirely possible to simply carry on with home activities and listen in, radio-theater-style, but using Zoom, audiences also have the extra advantage of seeing the actors, as they read.

Five pieces have been presented in rep, during the month of April.  “We have been pleased to help fill the gap by offering some 'interim art,' maintaining real time connections between actors and audiences.  We'll be back under full sail once more, as soon as gathering limitations allow,” said Braley.

Free admission! To reserve your seat for these online readings, visit Heartwood’s website www.heartwoodtheater.org
