Registration open for Coastal Rivers’ Camp Mummichog summer day camp
At Camp Mummichog, Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust’s summer day camp, nature education takes many forms: hands-on exploration, physical activity, art, music, writing, games, and more. All of this takes place on the shores of Great Salt Bay at Coastal Rivers Salt Bay Farm, a beautiful 120-acre nature preserve in Damariscotta featuring rolling fields, forest, and fresh and saltwater marshes.
On a typical day at Camp Mummichog, kids may be found exploring a salt marsh creek and looking for horseshoe crabs, running through fields with dragonflies darting ahead or learning to track a fox along the forest edge.
From July 5 through Aug. 19, nine camp sessions will be offered. Each session has a different theme and is designed for a specific age group.
“Nature Photography” invites campers to learn digital photography with a focus on nature exploration. At “Firekeepers,” campers will try their hands at basic survival skills, learn about Wabanaki culture, and build confidence in their interactions with natural environments. “Grandparents & Kids Camp” gives grandparents the opportunity to join their camper for a few days of marsh-mucking, art projects, games, and more.
All camp sessions are held at Coastal Rivers Salt Bay Farm on Belvedere Road in Damariscotta. Most sessions also include a field trip to a nearby preserve or on a boat cruise down the Damariscotta River.
