River Arts in Damariscotta announces a call to artists for “Wild Things.” Participants are invited to respond to the theme to reflect their own interpretation.

Work may be representational or abstract. Submission to “Wild Things” is open to original artwork in all media including, but not limited to, painting, sculpture, fiber, photography and mixed media. Works for submission may be delivered during regular gallery hours until the deadline Saturday, May 7 at 4 p.m.

River Arts is limiting the size for this show due to an overwhelming number of expected submissions. Artists may enter two pieces with a size limit of 15” x 15” including frame, or one larger piece up to a size limit of 48” x 48” including frame. Entry fee for members is $15 and $30 for non-members.

All work must be gallery ready, clean and dry. Wall pieces should be wired securely with screw eyes and picture wire. Wall pieces should not weigh more than 30 pounds. Diptychs are allowed, but multiple piece works larger than two pieces will not be accepted.

River Arts is pleased to announce that Tammy Ackerman will be the juror for this show. Ackerman has a BA in Fine Art from Northern State University, Aberdeen, SD and currently works as an arts’ consultant, independent designer, and ceramic artist. Ackerman is the former executive director and co-founder of Engine, a nonprofit arts organization in Biddeford. In her 10+ years at Engine, Ackerman staged approximately 10 contemporary and community art exhibitions a year, curating herself or working with excellent guest curators. One of the most inclusive and engaging shows was the annual “Rumpus,” an egalitarian art show that welcomed everyone, from professional artists to youth.

Notification of accepted work will be posted on River Arts website (riverartsme.org) and on Facebook.

“Wild Things” will run from May 10 through June 11. The artists’ reception will be Saturday, May 14.
