Organ and piano concert heralds Independence Day
The Lincoln Arts Festival opens its 33rd season, celebrating Independence Day with a concert of patriotic music for organ and piano. Organist Sean Fleming will be joined by the conductor of Lincoln Festival Chorus, Tony Antolini, who is also an accomplished pianist. The concert takes place on Tuesday, July 2, 7:30 p.m. at the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor.
There will be concert variations on such favorites as The Star Spangled Banner, When Johnny Comes Marching Home, Yankee Doodle, and America the Beautiful. Fleming will also perform the Hymn: America, followed by Charles Ives’ Variations on America.
Antolini will play piano, joining Fleming on the organ to perform Myron Roberts’ Church Sonata for Piano and Organ. Roberts died in Camden, Maine in 2004 at the age of 92. Antolini was his last organ student and unofficially adopted son.
For the organ finale, Fleming has chosen Stars and Stripes Forever by John Philip Sousa, arranged by E. Power Biggs.
Sean Fleming is a favorite organist, pianist, and accompanist for numerous local choirs and choruses, including the Lincoln Festival Chorus, Sheepscot Valley Chorus, and St Cecilia Chamber Choir. For the past 17 years he has served as organist at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Newcastle. He was the recipient of a 2009 St. Botolph Club Foundation grant award for achievements in music.
Anthony Antolini is a member of the music faculty at Bowdoin College.
