Three August nights, three Grammy winners
Kathy Mattea, touring in support of her most recent “Calling Me Home” album, arrives in Boothbay Harbor on Friday, August 16 to perform at 8 p.m. at the historic Opera House. It is her only Maine appearance this summer. Four years ago, Mattea, one of the most sure-footed country-pop song interpreters of her generation, caught everyone off guard with an album of old-timey Appalachian mining songs called “Coal.”
She’s delved even deeper into her Appalachian heritage with her new album, co-produced with modern acoustic mastermind Gary Paczosa and featuring liner notes from bestselling author, and Kentucky-born kindred spirit (and novelist) Barbara Kingsolver.
Advance tickets are $35, tickets purchased on the day of the concert, if available, are $40.
Livingston Taylor makes an annual pilgrimage to the Opera House stage and returns this summer in response to audience requests. Taylor picked up his first guitar at the age of 13, beginning a 40-year career that has encompassed performance, songwriting and teaching. He is the fourth child in a very musical family that includes Alex, James, Kate and Hugh. Livingston recorded his first record at 18 and has continued to create well-crafted, introspective and original songs that have earned him listeners worldwide.
From Top-40 hits “I Will Be in Love with You” and “I’ll Come Running,” to “I Can Dream of You” and “Boatman” both recorded by his brother James, Livingston’s creative output has continued unabated.
