Moore family starts student music foundation
Jay and Doug Moore shared a love for music.
In honor of the late brothers, the Moore family of Boothbay has started the Moore Music Legacy Foundation to bring music into the lives of underprivileged children.
The foundation launched this year and will serve the needs of students who have an interest in studying or playing a musical instrument.
“I think that both boys would have wanted to help kids that wouldn't otherwise have the means or the opportunity to get involved in music,” said Wayne Moore, the boys’ father.
The schools' music departments are collaborating with the Moore family. This opportunity is available to students of all ages from the Boothbay region, including home-schooled children.
“We are thrilled that our local students will have access to this resource because we have all types of kids from different means,” said Meredith Duke, the Boothbay school band teacher. “This can really make a difference for a lot of really musical and motivated kids.”
Whether a child wants to learn an instrument, take lessons or attend a music camp, applications can be submitted to determine the student's eligibility for the program.
“We hope as the fund grows to expand to Lincoln County,” Moore said. “Once we meet the need in the Boothbay region, we would like to see if we can expand beyond that."
Applications and donations to the foundation can be sent to the Moore Music Legacy at P.O. Box 21, East Boothbay, ME 04544.
