Molnlycke needs more time to decide
Molnlycke is putting off its decision on a possible Wiscasset expansion until at least mid-October, a company official said September 18.
Word could come as early as then or as late as November, said James Detert, Molnlycke's business development director for the Americas. He previously expected the board of the Sweden-based company to decide in September.
“It's taking a little longer than we had hoped, but the desire is there,” Detert said at the September 17 Wiscasset selectmen's meeting. The delay is due to “normal company stuff” and is not a sign the expansion is less likely, according to Detert.
“Molnlycke is very interested in doing an expansion in Wiscasset,” he said.
The expansion would nearly double the size of the company's Rynel plant on Twin Rivers Drive and add 10 to 30 jobs to the approximately 70 there now.
The maker of wound care products has been looking at expanding in either Wiscasset or Brunswick, where the company just built a plant at the former Brunswick Naval Air Station.
The new timeframe for a decision could create challenges for construction, Detert said. “But it is what it is.”
