All meetings relocated
The Woolwich Board of Selectmen will hold all future meetings at Woolwich Central School, starting on Tuesday, Sept. 4, for a six-month trial period. Monday, Sept. 3 is Labor Day and the town office will be closed.
On several occasions selectmen have commented on the insufficient space in the town office. Codes and fire safety concerns restrict the legal limit to 14 people in the first room and seven people in the back room of the town office. During the most recent selectmen's meeting on August 20, the number of people in attendance exceeded the second by a small margin.
Since the annual town meeting in May, a building committee led by Dana Lindsey has been discussing possibilities for an addition to the town office. A group of residents objected to the last addition proposed for the town office and selectmen subsequently removed it from the May town warrant.
“The rooms aren't adequate to have meetings anymore,” chairman of the Board of Selectmen David King said, during a recent telephone interview. He has supported the idea of having an addition to the town office. “We are going to make an honest attempt at using the new school.”
The September 4 meeting will take place in the school cafeteria at 6 p.m.
