Rep. Michaud’s communications director speaks to county Democrats
Nearly everyone who came to hear guest speaker Lizzy Reinholt at the Lincoln County Democrats' September meeting walked in wearing an "I Like Mike" button.
Reinholt, who is the Communications Director for Mike Michaud's gubernatorial campaign, started the evening by showing "Made in Maine," an excellent video about Michaud's upbringing, his reasons for going into public service, and the values he lives by and works for.
The video can be seen at www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBDrsOUQPBw or www.michaud2014.com.
After telling the group about campaign activities to date and its goals as the race moves forward, Reinholt discussed a range of poll results, all of which show Michaud in the lead. Summing up much of the analysis, she reported, "The numbers are in Mike's favor."
Michaud's strong support is due to his many years of working hard for legislative changes that impact peoples' lives.
While serving in the Maine House he was responsible for landmark environmental legislation that included the Maine Forest Practices Act. He also provided strategic and impassioned support for the loon plate, resulting in its final passage. This plate has raised millions of dollars for conservation.
When serving in the Maine Senate, Michaud led a bipartisan coalition to increase the minimum wage and put more money in the pockets of middle class Mainers.
A recent success in Washington was House passage of an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Bill that Congressman Michaud sponsored. His amendment requires any footwear provided to members of the Armed Forces upon initial entry to be made in America. Reinholt added, "Not only is this important to Maine, where New Balance employs hundreds of people, but Mike accomplished it at a time when it is especially difficult for Democrats to get anything done."
In addition to discussing many of Michaud's other significant successes in the Maine and U.S. Legislatures and his positions on a wide range of issues, Reinholt talked about his honesty, compassion, leadership, hard work and interest in doing what needs to be done to help his constituents do better.
After a lively question and answer session, Lisa Miller, chairman of the Lincoln County Democratic Committee, announced that the Democrats next meeting will cover the roll-out of the Affordable Care Act.
The meeting will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 23 and the 911 Community Room in Wiscasset. Guest speakers will be announced in the paper and on the website, www.lincolncountydemocrats.com.
