Curtain going up at the Lincoln Theater
This is one of those amazing week’s at Lincoln Theater – art, movies, live music, opera and theater broadcasts – something, hopefully, for everybody.
Exhibition – “Munch 150”: In 2013, all of Norway will be celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of Edvard Munch (1863–1944), one of the towering figures of modern art. This, the final exhibition in our series, has been hailed a “once-in-a-lifetime show.” Global interest is huge - not least as a result of one of his four The Scream paintings having recently set a public art auction record of $120 million. “Munch 150” is co-hosted by the National Museum and the Munch Museum, both in Oslo. This exhibition is the most ambitious presentation of Munch’s art ever. With 220 paintings it will display the greatest number of Munch’s key works ever. Many know Munch as the man who painted The Scream, but his complete works are remarkable and secure his place as one of the greatest artists to have ever lived. Thursday, Oct. 24 at 2 and 7 p.m.
In a World … (R): Lake Bell, who wrote and directed, stars as Carol, a drifting 30-year-old who dreams of conquering the competitive, male-dominated world of professional movie-trailer voice-over acting. Her father, Sam (Fred Melamed), is a giant in the field, and their relationship is one of many issues Carol must work out in the course of this busy, generous and altogether winning film, which nimbly combines show-business satire, romantic comedy and plain-spoken feminism. Pavel Smelkov conducts a cast led by Paulo Szot as the hapless Kovalyov, with Andrey Popov as the menacing police inspector and Alexander Lewis as Kovalyov’s peripatetic nose.
