Fish & Game Association makes donation to food pantry
Members of the Boothbay Region Fish & Game Association (BRF&GA) recently approved the donation of 30 food boxes, purchased at Hannaford in Boothbay Harbor, to the Boothbay Region Food Pantry. This is the fourth year that the association has made a donation.
Louis Scala first suggested this community service project to the membership and has coordinated the effort each year.
“There are many activities we sponsor for our community, but this annual contribution may have the greatest impact,” club president Tammy Steinmetz said.
The food boxes were delivered to the Food Pantry by Dennis Blackman, Blaisette Gauthier and Louis Scalain time for the October 18 food distribution.
“Without the caring and generosity of organizations like the Boothbay Region Fish and Game Association, many more families would be hungry this winter,” said Fleet Davies, co-president of the Food Pantry. “The pantry directors are thankful for the many years of their support.”
The BRF&GA was founded in 1913 by a group of local outdoorsmen. The club offers a number of programs and activities open to everyone in our community, including the youth.
It provides an annual “Life Skills Award” to a high school graduate, a Saltwater Fishing Tournament with a Junior Division co-sponsored with the Oak Street Provisions tackle shop, a “Summer .22 Shoot,” and a series of “Turkey Shoots” (shot at targets, not live turkeys) each fall.
This coming February, through a special program with the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife (IF&W), the BRF&GA will sponsor “kids only ice fishing” on Wiley Pond. IF&W will stock the pond with many larger brook trout this fall to provide the youth with some exciting ice fishing.
Regular meetings begin at 7:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month at the BRF&GA clubhouse at 447 Dover Road in Boothbay.
