Guns and a new hire
Between guns and new hires, it was the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at the center of November 5 Lincoln County Commissioners meeting.
Sheriff Todd Brackett was on hand October 5 in Wiscasset to suggest a new hire and to ask to trade outdated guns for newer equipment.
The Sheriff’s Office will also look to trade several Smith & Wesson handguns and .38 caliber ammunition for a new carbine, Brackett said.
“The revolvers were hardly being used,” Brackett said. “We want to trade them in for something more up to date.”
Brackett said the Sheriff’s Office would use a licensed dealer, but had to come before the commissioners because the weapons are county property.
The commissioners approved the move unanimously.
In another move that was accepted unanimously by the commissioners involving the Sheriff’s Office was the hiring of Jared Mitkus. Mitkus, who currently serves with the Boothbay Harbor Police Department, will work for the Sheriff’s Office, which has lost several deputies to state details.
Brackett said that if any of the deputies return, Mitkus will be returned to Boothbay Harbor and the other deputies could return to Lincoln County.
