Set to participate on task force
The Edgecomb Board of Selectmen passed a motion to participate in a special task force made up of representatives from each of the towns of Edgecomb, Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor and Southport to address the closure of St. Andrews’ emergency room.
Ordinances considered
The board noted that some residents are concerned about certain buildings being constructed in shoreland zones, which currently requires a permit to be signed by a code enforcement officer. After reviewing the ordinance changes, Selectman Stuart Smith acknowledged many of the restrictions no longer require approval by the planning board.
“There are a lot of things I think should be left up to the CEO. If it’s a walkway or some kind of retaining wall, the planning board really doesn’t need to be involved. But when you’re talking about accessory structures, I think we have got to look at the ordinance review committee, and put those restrictions back in place,” Smith said.
Selectman Jessica Chubbuck noted that she was contacted by a member of the Knickerbocker Group seeking a permit for an unexpected blasting for a utility trench on 28 Riverside Ave. in Edgecomb. The selectmen passed a motion to approve the measure for Maine Drilling and Blasting, pending a payment.
Fire Chief Roy Potter suggested that the fire department be informed of blasting in the Edgecomb area, which will be proposed at the next ordinance review committee.
Fire station fence near completion
Fire Chief Roy Potter also indicated that the ongoing fence construction at the fire station is nearing completion, noting that 10 rose bushes were recently donated to station from a greenhouse in Verona.
“The hold up now is we are just waiting to find out if we have the money available to put the lattice up,” Potter said.
The fire department plans to plant the rose bushes on August 29, and is looking forward finishing the work on the lattice to complete the installation of 6-foot-tall, 150-foot-long fence.
