Come to Game Day March 9
Yes, days have been cold, so it’s possible that our brains have frozen! But the “Game Day” cure is on its way this Sunday, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Town Hall, come out and enjoy your favorite games, try a new one, and laugh a lot. Serious, non-serious players of all ages will have a blast. The Westport Community Association will have tons of games, like Boggle, chess, cribbage, Rummikub, scrabble and card games; bring your own to try out with neighbors. This is free, and open to the public. Great munchies will keep us energized for the afternoon. Donations, as always, are appreciated for the Cottage Pantry. Hope to see you there!
Before the Arctic winds stop coming our way, here’s a suggestion for some computer fun. Head to www.mainememory.net, and search for Westport or Westport History Committee. You’ll find over 40 items, a few photos and lots of letters to Sarah Tarbox with full transcripts. Take a look at the handwriting, read the news shared among friends, and you’ll be quickly carried back to life in town and and Maine over 150 years ago. The History Committee will soon be scanning Westport photos from the 1950s, thanks to the Barbara Cromwell family.
Another fun event this week is the Portland Flower and Garden Show, at the Portland Company on Fore Street. Most of the activities take place Thursday, March 6 to Sunday, March 9. Check out portlandcompany.com/flower or call 207-775-4403. Amazing exhibits, all kinds of gardening vendors, interesting talks and a Children’s Discovery Garden can be seen. After the show closes on Sunday night, UMaine Cooperative Extension will host an auction of plant donations from the show’s exhibitors.
Adding another layer, hauling in wood from the dwindling pile, gasping at the oil bill tucked in our door — good to know that we’ll be turning our clocks ahead Sunday. That’s encouraging!
