Mixed bag of weather headed our way
People of the Midcoast region should brace themselves for a heavy batch of snow, rain, sleet and everything in between. The National Weather Service out of Gray has reported heavy precipitation slated to strike Maine starting around 6 p.m. on Wednesday evening, March 12, and carrying on through the night into Thursday afternoon.
Areas along the coast are expected to start off with snow by early Wednesday evening, which will turn to freezing rain or rain, before changing back to snow late. Northern parts of the state are predicting up to 10-16 inches of total snowfall, while the coastal and southern regions will likely see 3-6 inches of mixed precipitation, along with a layer of ice a quarter of inch thick.
According to a March 12 bulletin posted by the NWS, the potential for heavy precipitation will cause hazardous driving conditions as well as power outages. Winds will blow out of the northeast from 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.
A winter storm warning issued by NWS will be in effect between the hours of 11 a.m Wednesday and noon Thursday.
