Storm update: Snow continues through today; cold temps tonight
A snowy day and cold night is in the forecast but Lincoln County’s residents have been spared the worst of it. Northern and western areas of Maine will see up to 2 feet of snow from this March storm, while coastal residents can expect only a few inches.
At 9 a.m., there was about an inch of snow accumulation in Boothbay and light snow is still falling.
The National Weather Service’s winter weather advisory remains in effect until noon. Snowfall is expected to end by around 4 p.m. today.
Winds have dropped but are still significant (up to 40 mph). The National Weather Service predicts wind chills today as low as -5 F. Blowing and drifting snow may also make driving treacherous at times.
Drivers can expect winter driving conditions throughout the day and should take extra time and use caution when traveling. The Lincoln Country Sheriff’s Office and Boothbay Harbor Police Department reported no significant accidents overnight or during the morning commute.
About 300 Jefferson residents are without power, according to Central Maine Power, but the rest of Lincoln County, so far, still has the lights on.
At 8:45 a.m, Maine DOT reported flooding on the roadway at the intersection of Route 127 and Route 97, due to a plugged catch basin.
Temperatures will drop into the single digits tonight, but are expected to return to the 30s by tomorrow.
