Community support for HVNC
As Hidden Valley Nature Center undertakes an effort to expand its infrastructure, the community support has been impressive. HVNC is raising funds to build two new buildings that will serve as educational resources as well as community gathering places. The buildings, one a large multi-use structure and the other a lakeside camp, will serve two different functions, but together they will enhance the opportunities HVNC already offers and make new opportunities possible.
In the short time since HVNC staff began the fundraising effort, community members, families and businesses have responded generously. President of the Board of Directors at HVNC, Bill Dalke, and his wife Sylvia donated their Subaru station wagon to be sold by HVNC.
Just this week, Wayne Averill of Ames True Value in Wiscasset donated $2,500 in support of HVNC’s growth. Averill remarked, “I especially liked the recent press piece about HVNC’s 2 Dog Hut. It reminded me of everything they’ve made available.” HVNC co-founder Bambi Jones said, "We are so thankful for community businesses like Ames. They've been a great partner."
Many other individuals and businesses have given generously and remarked on what they love most about HVNC. “It’s been incredibly flattering so far, and very encouraging to see people offering their help,” said HVNC co-founder Tracy Moskovitz. “We know this is an ambitious project but look at how far HVNC has come already in a short amount of time,” he said, referring to the fact that HVNC has grown substantially since its start in 2007. HVNC is fast approaching five hundred memberships, and expects well over 5,000 visitors in 2014.
HVNC in Jefferson is a nonprofit education and recreation center hosting many diverse opportunities to explore the outdoors. One thousand acres of diverse habitat, including a secluded great pond, are knit together by more than 25 miles of trails. HVNC is open to the public 365 days a year, dawn to dusk.
