Frost heaves ahead

The long, cold winter hasn’t just been tough on humans, it’s been hard on Maine’s roads, too.
“It’s frost heave season,” Woolwich Road Commissioner Jack Shaw told the Board of Selectmen on Monday night: “We’ve just got to live with it and slow down. Everything is passable and the roads are posted.”
Selectman Dale Chadbourne asked Shaw about telephone poles being replaced on Dana Mill Road. Chadbourne said one particular pole was being replaced right on the edge of the road. When asked, a CMP worker told Chadbourne that the town could contact someone in planning about relocating the pole.
“I’ve been down that road before with CMP,” Shaw said. “It’s doable if we are willing to pay for it. It’s cheaper to move the road.”
