Sponsors sought for ‘Pirate Rendezvous’

A wide choice of sponsorship opportunities for local businesses and organizations are available for the Damariscotta River Pirate Rendezvous, scheduled for Saturday, June 21.
Ranging from monetary support that covers expenses to simply providing goods or services needed by the Pirate Rendezvous, and including volunteer work; any business or organization should be able to find a way to assist at the event.
Proceeds from the Pirate Rendezvous will go to benefit a number of area nonprofits, including those that provide volunteers.
Primary sponsorships are those involving financial support of the Pirate Rendezvous and are particularly important to the fundraising effort, according to Pirate Rendezvous Co-Director Greg Latimer. “These sponsorships go to cover some of the expenses incurred in producing the event, such as the pirate ship, our musical entertainment, construction of the children’s games and purchase of equipment and prizes,” Latimer said. “By covering these expenses, our sponsors allow more of the funds generated during the event to benefit the nonprofits we assist.”
In 2013, primary sponsors included Renys, Ames Supply, Damariscotta Bank & Trust, Cheney Insurance, Newcastle Square Realty, Lincoln County Healthcare and Colby & Gale.
Supporting sponsorships, where businesses can support fundraising efforts with a donation of goods or services, are also available.
The event will also continue a tradition that began in 2013, with area nonprofits providing volunteers at the Pirate Kids Camp benefiting from a portion of the revenue generated there. In 2013 the Great Salt Bay Elementary School Field Hockey Team and Boy Scout Troop 213 were beneficiaries.

The Pirate Rendezvous will continue to be the primary fundraiser for Lincoln County Family Holiday Wishes, a food and gift drive that benefited over 500 local children and their families during the Christmas season last year. Many area residents are familiar with Family Holiday Wishes through the pink and blue wish tags they distribute each year, with each tag representing the hopeful wish of a local child in need.
The Pirate Rendezvous is a day-long family event that incorporates children in helping the Mystic Pirates find their lost treasure hidden somewhere within in-town Damariscotta. The event will open at 10 a.m., with the highlight of the day at high noon when the pirates sail up the Damariscotta River, unleashing volleys of cannon fire at defenders onshore. Once the pirates land, there will be a variety of activities in-town as the buccaneers seek their treasure. Activities will take place throughout in-town Damariscotta and Newcastle.
