On Saturday, March 29, 10 third and fourth graders from Edgecomb’s Center for Teaching and Learning participated in a poetic shorts event at the Maine Coast Bookshop in Damariscotta to promote the release of Paul Janeczko’s “Firefly July: A Year of Very Short Poems” with illustrations by Melissa Sweet. They recited favorite poems from the anthology, and then were led by Janeczko to write brief stanzas in response to a poem he presented. The kids then shared their original stanzas with the audience.

The students included Ian VonFrank of Alna, Marcus Russano of Jefferson, Elliot and Louis Genus of Edgecomb, Katie Sanborn of Alna, Anna Kelly of Bremen, Calla Ruff of Bath, Grace Dempsey-Blair of Bath, Sophia Kovacs of Bath and Finn Sullivan of Brunswick.
