School board approves cost-sharing changes
There will be public hearings next month regarding the changes in how the towns in Sheepscot Valley Regional School Unit 12 share education costs. The school district's board of directors approved a section of the cost-sharing plan, titled 13-B, which was rewritten during their most recent meeting in Whitefield on September 13.
The changes to how towns pay for education in the school district reflect the number of students and state subsidy provided through member towns. The revamped cost-sharing plan also includes a safety net provision to dampen the impact of increased costs to member towns.
Included in the proposed changes was a way to share costs for adult education. According to Finance Committee chairman Jerry Nault, it was a “minimalist kind of change” that divided program costs among towns using population numbers.
Residents will have opportunities to learn about the board-approved changes to the cost-sharing plan during public informational sessions next month before voting on November 6.
