Teen driver hospitalized

An accident occurring on Route 27 in Dresden, brought traffic to a stop on Wednesday afternoon. A 1995 Chevrolet pickup driven by Joe King, 16, of East Wilton, went off the road and struck a utility pole which caused three poles to come down taking down guide and electrical lines. This caused power outages for the residents in the area.
The truck landed on its hood and King was trapped inside the truck for over an hour, hanging upside down by his seat belt. Once King was removed, he was taken to Central Maine Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries according to Ken Mason of the Lincoln County Sherriff’s Department.
Nearby neighbor Tony Pallis was working in his garage, heard the loud crash and went out to see what happen. He saw the truck upside down. Pallis, a registered nurse, went over to the vehicle to check on the victim.
“He was responsive, but compromised,” Pallis said.
Pallis said the victim asked him to remove his seat belt and to call his parents. Pallis said he didn’t remove the seat belt but did call his parents.
As a result of the downed wires, a Country Farm box truck was involved in a separate accident. The driver of the truck, Gregory McEwan, 54, of Bath tried to go around the wires, but couldn’t clear them and the tension wire took the top of the truck the off.
The occupants of the truck, McEwan and George Hamlin were not injured. “We okay, just a little shaken up,” McEwan said. According to McEwan, the company’s insurance carrier concluded that the cab may have been able to be saved but because the trailer has so much damage it isn’t worth fixing, and it totaled the truck.
