Wiscasset Senior Center
The annual Scarecrow Festival is Saturday, Oct. 18 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Wiscasset Municipal Building. This is a fun time for families and is sponsored by the Wiscasset Community Center. The Senior Center has sold pies as a fundraiser at the event for several years and will be doing it again this year. Last year we sold out before the event was over. If you are willing to bake a pie and donate it to the fundraiser, the sign up list is on the bulletin board in the dining room.
Saturday, Oct. 18 is also the date for the next Lincoln County Triad’s Senior Appreciation Day. The location will be the Boothbay Region Elementary School in Boothbay Harbor and the time will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This annual event will be number 14 and as always will feature a free lunch, entertainment, exhibits, presentations, a flu shot clinic and various medical screenings.
Lincoln County Triad’s Senior Appreciation Day started as a way of thanking seniors for their many contributions to the community over their lifetimes. This year the keynote speaker will be Chief Ron Young of the Damariscotta Police Department.
This coming Saturday, Sept. 27, there will be a Medication Collection event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is a chance for you to get rid of any unwanted, expired or unused medications. Collection points are: Lincoln County Communications Building (lower level) in Wiscasset, the Town Office Building in Boothbay Harbor, the Sheepscot Valley Health Center in Whitefield and Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta.
By getting rid of unwanted drugs in this safe way you will be protecting your family, community and the environment. All drugs that are collected are burned in a controlled furnace to prevent any smoke or debris from getting into the environment.
Here are a few good news items. The popular Prime Rib Dinner will be on the October menu. Reservations will be necessary, so do sign up once the date is announced. The birthday cake that is served on the first dinner of the month will now include a scoop of ice cream. And finally, membership cards are available to all current members. Please see Bill Maloney for your new card. Membership now stands at 70. Remember, if you take part in any activity sponsored by the Senior Center you should be a member.
The cribbage tournament winners on Tuesday, Sept. 16 were Ken Colby and Della Hilton tied for first, Marge Pooler second and Larry Clark had the low score. The cribbage tournament winners on Thursday, Sept. 18 were Gail Thayer first, Larry Clark second, Donna (sorry, I don’t have a last name) and Nancy Schilke tied for third, Dick Barnard low score and Dick Barnard and Larry Clark tied for the high hand.
