ElderCare Adult Day Services: A success story
Gertrude Cunningham enjoys the company of others and keeping herself busy. She lives in her own home, with some assistance from her daughter Betty Fitzpatrick and her family, as well as enjoying some in home care during times when Betty is working.
During one of this winter’s many snowstorms and power outages, Betty needed another plan to keep her mother safe and warm, so she contacted ElderCare Adult Day Services, and was able to have an immediate answer to her problem. She dropped her mother off and went on to work, knowing she would be well cared for.
Gertrude enjoys the socialization, great food and good care, along with feeling safe and welcomed. Gertrude states she likes coming to Hodgdon Green because she likes to “laugh, sit and enjoy the company, and join the activities.” She feels the busy environment “keeps her mind active,” and she especially likes the art classes taught by Carol Teel, and the salon days. This winter she has enjoyed the church services, too, as the weather has often canceled those at her home church.
Her daughter Betty was immediately relieved, when she saw the warm, light and friendly atmosphere. She was again comforted to hear her mother exclaim about the wonderful home-cooking and how much she loved the meals. They always seem to cook foods the elderly enjoy, and Gertrude’s appetite is great.
Betty now goes to work on the days her mother is a Hodgdon Green, without worrying about her safety, as she know she is well cared for and warm. She likes that her mother can choose whether or not to participate in the activities of the day and appreciates the wonderful assistance of the loving staff. It feels just like another supportive family to both Gertrude and Betty.
Sometimes, Gertrude visits Hodgdon Green for the whole day while Betty works, and at other times, stops by for a couple of hours while Betty completes errands or has appointments, or attends an activity for a child. She has brought Gertrude by on weekdays and weekends, and found that her mother really looks forward to her times at Hodgdon Green. Both Gertrude and Betty have found ElderCare Adult day Services to be a wonderful solution for their present needs.
