Busy night in Wiscasset April 7
From a boardwalk concept to two would-be town ordinances, April 7 is shaping up to be a busy night at the Wiscasset municipal building.
At 4:30 p.m., the Waterfront Committee was scheduled to review a report on a concept for a boardwalk to connect the commercial and recreational piers with Route 1.
A selectmen’ meeting that follows starts at 6 p.m. with a closed-door discussion the board will have to consult with lawyers; on the agenda for the open meeting at 7 p.m., attorneys Peter Murray and Sarah McDaniel are scheduled to discuss the town’s next steps regarding Maine Yankee’s spent fuel.
Because the fuel’s storage in Wiscasset could outlast an existing tax agreement with Maine Yankee, the town needs to look at how to proceed, Town Manager Marian Anderson has said. The deal, dating to the mid-1990s, addresses property taxes and impact fees.
Also on selectmen’s agenda are public hearings on the town’s proposed historical preservation ordinance and proposed flood plains ordinance. Both are headed for possible town votes this spring.
