Dresden library awarded $1K grant from Sisters in Crime
Sisters in Crime’s New England chapter has awarded Bridge Academy Public Library in Dresden $1,000 grant in its “We Love Libraries” program.
The grant money can be used to buy books in any genre.
Sisters in Crime is dedicated to promoting the ongoing advancement, recognition and professional development of women crime writers. The organization has 3,600 members in 50 chapters worldwide.
Libraries in the United States can enter a monthly drawing for the We Love Libraries grant by submitting an entry form and a photo of one or more staff members with three books by Sisters in Crime members in their collection.
The Sisters in Crime New England Chapter presented the library the award on Thursday, April 9.
We’re so excited about this honor,” Library Director Susan Schroeder said. “Like many libraries, we are in a major budget crunch. It couldn’t have come at a better time.”
Schroeder said the grant will help add to the library’s young adult; mystery and historical adult fiction and military, nature, and historical non-fiction collections.
Vicki Doudera, the chapter’s member at large, presented the award and gave a brief talk entitled “Libraries I’ve Loved.”
Doudera, of Camden, is the author of eight books, including "Moving to Maine" and the Darby Farr mystery series, featuring a savvy real estate agent who solves crimes while making sales. Latest and fifth in the series is "Deal Killer. She is also a co-host of “Soup du Jour,” a talk show on VStv.
“Libraries are a lifeline for us writers,” Doudera said. “They provide us direct support by connecting readers to our work and encouraging love of the written word. It’s an honor to recognize these efforts. We’re happy the Sisters in Crime organization can support the Bridge Academy Public Library in providing new books for its patrons.”
