23rd Annual Spring Walk to Build
Habitat for Humanity will host its annual spring family-friendly fundraiser on May 1.
The walk will take place in downtown Brunswick beginning at 2 p.m. Registration begins at 1 p.m. at the St. Charles Church at 132 McKeen Street.
Interested individuals and businesses are urged to contact Lincoln Erhard for packets and brochures by calling 522-4717 or Kerrin Erhard at Boothbay Region High School.
Information is also available on the bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall at the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor at 125 Townsend Avenue.
People can sponsor an individual walker or a team with a cash or check payment directly to them, or pay with a credit card by clicking on the Individual Walkers/Team link on Habitat for Humanity's home page. Click the 'Sponsor Me!' link to the right of the walker or team name.
This year's event sponsors are: Bath Savings Institution, Mid Coast Hospital, Ames True Value, H.M. Payson, Larrabee Insurance, The First, Hancock Lumber and Morningstar Stone and Tile/Soapstone of Maine.
Habitat’s houses are built with contributions of funds and materials from the community and volunteer labor. They are Energy Star-certified, making them extremely energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.
The homes are sold for the cost of materials and professional labor only, and are financed with a very low interest mortgage in order to keep them affordable for those who cannot otherwise own a home. Habitat is estimating the monthly mortgage including utilities to be in the range of $750.
