Harland B. Rice, 83, of Brunswick died April 4, 2016.

He was born in Boothbay Harbor on June 27, 1932, a son of the late Carl and Idelin (Woodard) Rice.

As a young man Harland worked in Boothbay at his family’s shipyard, and after his service in the U.S. Army, he worked as a caretaker at Squirrel Island. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion.

Harland married Louise Lent on July 4, 1980 and she predeceased him on April 14, 2015.

Harland is survived by a brother, Clifton Rice; a sister, Janice Grant; as well as nieces and nephews.

Harland was predeceased by his brothers, Gordon, Lewis, John, Weston and Preston (Skipper); and his sisters, Betty Rice and Barbara Brooks.

Harland’s family wishes to thank the staff at Coastal Shores for the care they gave to both Harland and his wife as well as Chan’s Hospice for their compassion and support.
