Local merchants support LCHA’s Kermess
Lincoln County Historical Association reports that local businesses have been generous in their support of the Association’s July 24 fundraiser, called Kermess, at the Foye-Sortwell Farm. Primary sponsor of the event is the First National Bank, which has Lincoln County locations in Damariscotta and Wiscasset.
Monique McRae, Wiscasset branch manager of First National Bank, presented a check for $1,000 to the event chair, Christine Hopf-Lovette, on behalf of the two branches. While sponsorships are still being accepted, other business Partners include Cromwell Coastal Properties, Debra Elizabeth, Carl M.P. Larrabee Agency, and Northeast Security Systems. Benefactors include Damariscotta Bank, J. Edward Knight & Co., Mid-Coast Energy Systems, Northeast Security Systems J.M. Sewell, and Tidewater Telecom. Friends include Birch Home Furnishings, Dan Friedland M.D., In the Clover, and Red’s Eats.
Kermess is a Dutch word for an outdoor festival, usually held for the purpose of raising funds for charity. LCHA’s Kermess at the Foye-Sortwell Farm will be a traditional lobster bake, complete with clams, corn, and potatoes. There will be alternate menu items including rib eye steak, cole slaw, and South American vegetarian dishes plus Maine blueberry cake. Entertainment for the festivities will be supplied by the community steel band, Pan Fried Steel from Yarmouth.
Tickets and sponsorships can be ordered online at www.lincolncountyhistory.org or by calling 207-882-6817.
Located in the Wiscasset Historic District, the Foye-Sortwell Farm was settled in the late 1700s by the Foye family. For many years it was a working dairy farm, supplying Wiscasset with milk and cream. The barns have been restored by Daniel Sortwell, a descendent of the original settlers.
The Lincoln County Historical Association is steward of the 1754 Chapman-Hall House in Damariscotta, the 1761 Pownalborough Courtt House in Dresden, and the 1811 Old Jail and Museum in Wiscasset. All three are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. For more information, please visit www.lincolncountyhistory.org.
