Robert E. “Hennie” Townsend, 80, of Boothbay Road, Edgecomb died Jan. 8, 2017 at his residence.

He was born in Boothbay Harbor on Jan. 8, 1937, a son of Clarence E. and Lucille D. (Bradley) Townsend.

He graduated high school in the class of 1955 which was the last class out of Boothbay Harbor High School. In 1957, he married Rebecca Erskine. He was employed as a carpenter and in 1960 he began his contractor business, retiring at the age of 62.

He enjoyed NASCAR, listening to country music and going to flea markets.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca E. Townsend of Edgecomb; one son, Jeffrey A. Townsend of Boothbay Harbor; one daughter, Teresa A. Townsend and her longtime companion Richard Leeman of Boothbay Harbor; one sister, Estelle Appel of Boothbay; three grandchildren, Peter Townsend, Rachael Townsend and Colter Leeman; and three great-grandchildren.

There will be no services. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Boothbay at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Edgecomb Fire Department, P.O. Box 313, Edgecomb, ME 04556.
