Leveraging innovative state and federal resources for small businesses
Is your small business creating jobs, but not tapping into state incentives? Maybe you’ve tinkered with a new product design – now what? Ready to look at exporting your product? On Tuesday, April 4, Lincoln County Regional Planning Commission is hosting a workshop on Federal and State Resources for Small Businesses, at 8 a.m. at their office, 297 Bath Road in Wiscasset.
Presenters include Shane Beckim, investment officer at Maine Technology Institute, International Trade Specialist Thomas Conley of the Maine International Trade Office, Jaimie Logan, governor’s account executive with Maine Department of Economic and Community Development, and Bill Card, economic development specialist with the Maine Office of the Small Business Administration.
Beckim will discuss how MTI works with entrepreneurs, innovators, established businesses and institutions that conduct R & D to fund, connect, and grow resources that will help commercialize technologies. MTI’s programs – including the TechStart, Seed Grant programs and other funding and technical assistance -- help innovators accelerate their progress to the market, leverage additional investment, and ultimately, expand their economic impact in Maine.
Created by the state legislature in 1996 to expand Maine’s economy through increased international trade in goods and services, Maine International Trade Center (MITC) is a public-private partnership funded through membership dues of nearly 300 businesses and organizations, corporate sponsor contributions, and Maine DECD. MITC works to increase the number of Maine companies involved in international trade and expand the reach of those already active, as well as leverage the synergy created overseas to develop new opportunities for international student attraction and foreign investment.
Conley will talk about MITC’s variety of programs that support Maine businesses, including international business assistance, one-on-one trade missions and trade shows.
Logan will discuss state business incentives such as the Employment Tax Increment Financing and Pine Tree Development Zone, along with the Maine in Maine program that promotes Maine products and producers. Card will highlight SBA’s many small business resources and financing tools.
This is the fourth in a series of business resource workshops cooperatively presented by the Maine Small Business Administration, Maine Small Business Development Center, Maine Department of Economic and Community Development, and the Lincoln County Regional Planning Commission.
There is no charge for the workshop, but preregistration is encouraged. Please call 882-5983 to register or online at www.lcrpc.org.
