Wiscasset recognizes public employees
Wiscasset town employees attended a special lunch on Tuesday, May 9 held in recognition of their service to the town.
Wiscasset Police Department Administrative Assistant Diane Hammond said the event was part of national Public Service Recognition Week. “It is a way to recognize them and say thanks for their service to the community.”
Singled out for special recognition and awarded certificates were Matthew Huber, who had perfect attendance in 2016 at the public works department; and Anita Sprague for her dedication to the ambulance service including her volunteer hours inspecting child safety seats.
Also recognized were volunteer firemen with 30 or more years of service, including Peter Rines, Ed Goud, Robert MacDonald, Larry Rines, Ben Rines, Jeffery Speed, Larry Gordon and John Blagdon.
Each town employee will receive a letter of appreciation along with a free pass donated by Wiscasset Speedway for races scheduled for Saturday, May 13.
Gordon, who will be retiring as a selectman, said he had postponed mowing the lawn to attend the event. Gordon served on the board from 1971 to 1998. He returned this winter to fill out the term of Judy Flanagan, who had resigned.
“I have only three meetings left,” said Gordon. At 81, he is ready to retire for good, he said.
