Midcoast Conservancy looks for next home
Midcoast Conservancy has formed a committee to explore relocation options for its headquarters, due to the fact that the Maine Department Of Transportation has confirmed it will raze the organization's current office, the Haggett Garage at 36 Water Street in Wiscasset, as early as this fall.
Board member Mary Kate Reny, who is experienced in community development and commercial real estate, will chair the committee. Other members are board chair Susan Russell, Tom Eichler, board member Marty Welt and Midcoast Conservancy Deputy Director Steve Patton.
Russell said, “Although we are very disappointed that it is likely the Haggett building will be demolished for parking, Midcoast Conservancy hopes that Wiscasset, which has been so welcoming to our regional organization, will be strengthened by MDOT's plan." Midcoast Conservancy provides services to 22 communities to protect water, land and wildlife and to provide outdoor adventure and learning opportunities for families, kids and schools.
In considering relocation priorities, Reny said she and her committee welcome suggestions and help from the community in identifying a space that can accommodate a growing staff of 10-plus interns, offer meeting space for board and partner meetings, provide storage for the organization’s outdoor adventure equipment, and has room for parking. Ideally the new office, like the one in Wiscasset, will be convenient to the Route 1 corridor.
