Midcoast Conservancy moving to Edgecomb
After an exhaustive search in the midcoast region, Midcoast Conservancy has found its new home in Edgecomb. Board member Mary Kate Reny said, “Our relocation committee looked at some 40 possible properties throughout Lincoln County, guided by aspirations set by staff and volunteers. We are thrilled that our new home satisfies all our current needs and desires.”
Thanks in part to a new and innovative partnership with First National Bank, the conservancy and the bank signed a purchase and sale agreement for a lovely timber frame building in Edgecomb, right on Route 1. The bank made this generous offer in exchange for sponsorship opportunities from the conservancy over the next five years. Tony McKim, president and chief executive officer of First National Bank, said, “First National is pleased to facilitate the sale of this building to Midcoast Conservancy so they can further their mission of creating resilient natural communities. We look forward to working with them now and in the future.”
The 3,200-square=foot finished office space is situated on just under six acres, has a handicapped accessible first floor, a break room and a daylight basement for the organization’s ever-expanding outdoor gear collection. In addition, radiant floor heating and heat pumps align with the organization’s commitment to energy efficiency.
Midcoast Conservancy Board Chair Susan Russell said, “It was a blow to us when four months ago (Maine Department of Transportation) exercised eminent domain on the Haggett building in Wiscasset and told us we would have to relocate. It was both disrupting and sad that such a large, sound structure would be demolished. But there is a silver lining for Midcoast Conservancy. We found a perfect new location in Edgecomb and we have formed an exciting new partnership with the building’s former owner, First National Bank. They have bent over backward to make the deal possible, and we look forward to working with them in the future.”
The move is scheduled to begin Nov. 27 and take several days. “The staff is excited for the move and all are looking forward to having our community come help us celebrate once we are all settled in,” said Executive Director Jody Jones.
