2nd Congregational Church Holy Week and Easter program announced
The Second Congregational Church of Newcastle, UCC has announced its Holy Week and Easter worship service plans.
On Sunday, March 25 Palm/Passion Sunday begins Holy Week, leading to Easter Sunday. Worship on Palm/Passion Sunday will begin at 10 a.m. with a celebratory theme of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem and concludes with the passion narrative as Jesus’ journey to the cross is recalled.
On Maundy Thursday, March 29, Tenebrae will be observed in a special worship service at 7 p.m. This is one of the most poignant services of the church year as the story of Christ’s passion is shared through scripture, music and prayer. Communion by intinction will be offered. As the service progresses, the lights dim with the service ending in darkness; worshipers leave the sanctuary in silence after the Easter candle has been lit.
On Good Friday, March 30, the church sanctuary will be open from noon to 3 p.m. for those who wish to come in for prayer and meditation.
On Easter Sunday, April 1, worship begins at 10 a.m. as the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ in the sanctuary. The service will include special music from the hand bell and chancel choirs, and a sermon titled, “This is So Good!” given by pastor Rev. Charlene Corbett.
The service is family oriented with a special message for families and children. A festive fellowship hour immediately follows the worship service with an Easter egg hunt for those families and children who have worshipped with us. All are welcome at Second Congregational Church, no matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey. He church is located at 51 Main Street in Newcastle and at newcongo@midcoast.com
