Auxiliary donates $40,562 to local healthcare
As they have done since 1952, the St. Andrews Hospital Auxiliary handed over a sizable check in support of local healthcare and St. Andrews Hospital October 18. At their annual meeting and fashion show, the hardworking volunteers voted to donate $40,562 to Miles and St. Andrews Home Health and Hospice, Lincoln County Healthcare Tufts Medical School program, and St. Andrews Hospital's Wellness and Rehabilitation Program but deferred action on other funding requests.
President Miriam Wade said the auxiliary will probably also donate funds to the Boothbay Region Ambulance Service once plans for St. Andrews Hospital and emergency services are clearer.
Wade also said the hospital task force’s request for funding was something the auxiliary could not legally consider. Because the task force is not a nonprofit, Wade said the Internal Revenue Service would not allow the auxiliary to donate funds to its support.
