Bingo is back
Thursday after-lunch Bingo was reinstated and will continue as long as there is interest in playing a fun game. This is definitely not a high stakes Bingo and don’thope to even win enough to pay for lunch, but if the “thrill of victory and the agony of defeat” is your idea of fun, then this is the game for you. We had about nine people playing last Thursday with Larry Clark doing the calling. He used his laptop and the new TV in the dining room to display the numbers. I had the good fortune to win the first game and the last game (black out). Now that was thrilling and unusual. My recollection of past games seems to be more of seeing the thrill someone else had in winning.
Next Wednesday happens to be the last Wednesday before Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent. Therefore it is time to celebrate Carnival and Mardi Gras. Ken Perry, our chef, has listed the entrée for the public supper that night to be Seafood Mardi Gras. That is a bit of a hedge so he can select the best deal on some sort of seafood. Ken said that he has several dishes in mind depending on the price of different items but he will make something special to celebrate the season. Last year we had a week of special meals to celebrate Mardi Gras and each day was a culinary delight. Be sure to make a reservation and plan to be there for a good meal and an enjoyable evening.
Last week’s prime rib dinner was the best ever. Ken got some tender prime rib and cooked it up just right. He cut nice thick slices. This was probably due to the small number in attendance so those of us who did come out in all that cold air got a real treat. Then for dessert Patty made her famous deep-dish apple pie. For those of you who have never had a piece of her deep-dish apple pie let me just say that this was just one pie and all 40 plus dinners had a generous piece with ice cream. The pie was wide and deep! I must say that this dinner was as good if not better than the dinner I had at a restaurant noted for prime rib last weekend. I paid over $30 for that dinner including soup, entrée, dessert, coffee and tip. The Senior Center dinner was only $12 and included everything. Plus at the Senior Center I got to enjoy conversation with many interesting people.
Last Wednesday Ed Polewarczky, Senior Center member and Wiscasset selectman, brought a list of goals the selectmen are considering. He asked that anyone interested to indicate which goals they liked and which they didn’t. I think this was great and goes back to early Senior Center days when members were eager to engage in discussions on what the town should be doing. I’m grateful to all those that took the time to offer their opinions. Now how about some discussion items from other towns? In the past I’ve had conversations with officials from Westport Island and other towns. We have many members from Westport Island, how about some questions from there? Nothing has to be official, just some good old discussion items.
