Coast Guard still searching for missing 'Bounty' Captain
As of Thursday morning, Nov. 1, the United States Coast Guard Fifth District was still searching for Captain Robin Walbridge of the sunken HMS Bounty.
On Monday, Oct. 29 Walbridge entered the water 90 miles southeast of Hatteras, N.C. when his crew was forced to abandon the Bounty. Currently, the Coast Guard is searching 200 miles southeast of Hatteras in an area – 1,200 square miles – roughly the size of Rhode Island.
“As of now, our intent is to continue searching for the missing person,” Captain Doug Cameron, chief of incident response, said in a press release. “This is still an active search not a recovery effort. Factors such as fitness of the member, weather conditions, survival equipment and the results from previous searches are taken into consideration to determine how long the Coast Guard will search.”
On Thursday morning the water temperature in the search area was 79 degrees, seas were 4 feet and winds were 30 miles-per-hour.
