Diana L. Hussa
Diana Lee Hussa passed away on Oct. 9, 2025 at Bryn Mawr Hospital in Pennsylvania, the same hospital where she was born 78 years earlier on Dec. 12, 1946. Her father, Edwin F. Hussa Jr., was still serving in the Pacific in the aftermath of World War II, while her mother, Carol Painter Hussa stayed with her parents.
Known fondly as Didi, she was a 1964 graduate of Radnor High in Wayne, Pennsylvania. Didi was co-editor of the yearbook with her pal Randy Kleiser. She played parts in his fledgling high school movies, long before he went on to bigger things like directing the classic film “Grease.”
Didi earned her associate’s degree from Centenary College, and later went back for a bachelor’s degree and her RN at Villanova. She was an integral part of the family medical practice she shared with her husband Joel Lowenthal. She enjoyed the interaction with the many long-time patients.
Creative and thoughtful, Didi designed and made many clothing and needlework pieces for family and friends, including her daughter’s wedding dress. One of her happiest places was her sewing room, with a corkboard wall filled with project ideas and keepsakes surrounding her.
Also special to Didi was the Midcoast of Maine. She cherished her childhood and teen summer visits to MacMahan Island, with adventurous groups of teens piling into small boats headed for an evening movie in Boothbay Harbor. Later, with her family, she spent more than 25 years making memories at various cottages on Ocean Point.
Most of all, Didi loved being a mother and grandmother. She showered warmth and affection on her two children, three grandchildren, and others she held dear. She’ll be remembered for the many hand-sewn hats, pillows, and matching pajama sets, her special Christmas traditions, her back rubs, and her unique ability to give each grandchild her undivided, loving attention.
Surviving Didi are her daughter Caroline (husband Sam), grandchildren Leo, Diana (her “Lil’ D”), and Teddy of Cambridge Massachusetts, and son Matt of Philadelphia. Didi is also survived by Joel Lowenthal, brothers Rick (wife Sal) and Gordon (wife Kathy), and several nieces and nephews.
Family will gather on Ocean Point in late August to share memories of our dear Didi.
